The short answer

What Do Custom Hang Tags for Clothing Actually Involve?

Custom hang tags for clothing are printed board tags carrying your brand name, size, care, price and barcode, die-cut to shape, finished, punched and strung before they reach the garment. Jafsu Enterprises makes them from one sample piece and 50-piece runs in Sialkot, Pakistan, shipping to the UK, USA, Canada, the EU and Australia.

A print shop sends a box of tags and stops there. In-house garment branding and tagging services go further: the tag is threaded, attached, checked against the size it hangs on, and packed. That last step is where tagging usually goes wrong — a medium tag on a large hoodie is a return, not a typo.

We work OEM and ODM: send print-ready artwork and we print to it, or send a brand name, colour and reference and we draw the dieline, set the type and propose stock, finish and cord.

The harder question is not who prints your first 50 tags, but who prints the next 5,000 in the same colour. That goes wrong when colour lives in a JPEG rather than a Pantone reference.

What we print and finish

Custom Apparel Hang Tags & Labels, Built to Your Artwork

Six builds cover almost every branding pack that leaves the floor, each cut to your own dieline and stock.

Custom printed paper tags

Full-colour art card tags in matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination, printed CMYK or in Pantone spot colours. Coated stock holds fine type and photographic artwork cleanly, and is where most brands start.

Custom embossed & foil hang tags

Hot foil in gold, silver, rose gold, copper or holographic, plus embossing, debossing, spot UV and painted edges. Both need a metal die cut from vector artwork, so keep logos vector.

Eco-friendly recycled kraft hang tags with jute string and a CUSTOM DESIGN stamp

Eco-friendly recycled hang tags

Recycled and uncoated kraft board with water-based inks, jute or organic cotton string and no plastic laminate. Kraft absorbs ink, so colour dries warmer and darker — proved on a sample before press.

Hang tags with cord / string

Waxed cotton cord, jute twine, satin ribbon, elastic loops, ball chain, safety pins and plastic seals, with brass or nickel eyelets. Cord length and knot type go in writing, because a short loop will not clear a hood.

Private label clothing swing tags

Retail-ready custom swing tags for clothing carrying size, price, barcode, RRP and care wording, with sequential numbering or variable data. Ordered as a set — brand, size and care tag — so one order covers the garment.

Six Lines That Decide Whether Your Reorder Matches

Send these to every hang tag supplier you shortlist. The ones worth working with answer in numbers; the rest answer with adjectives.

  • Board weight in both units. 300 GSM is roughly 111 lb cover; writing both stops a premium tag quietly becoming a flimsy one.
  • Stock and surface, named. Coated art card, uncoated textured board, kraft and recycled board take ink differently — the same file prints darker on kraft.
  • Colour system. A CMYK build drifts between runs; a Pantone spot colour does not. Name the PMS reference and keep it on every reorder.
  • Finish spelled out. Matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination, spot UV, foil reference, emboss or deboss, edge paint — each is a separate process and cost.
  • Attachment spec. Hole position and diameter, eyelet material, cord type and length, and whether tags ship loose or attached.
  • Artwork spec. 300 dpi, CMYK or Pantone, 3 mm bleed, fonts outlined, a dieline layer, and vector shapes for anything foiled or embossed.

The approved sample travels with the order

Printing, foiling, die-cutting, eyeletting, stringing, tagging and packing happen in one building, so nothing is brokered out to a trade printer we cannot inspect. Tags go onto garments from our own cut and sew production before packing, and your artwork and dielines stay yours.

The hard numbers

Stocks, Quantities and Lead Times

Board weight belongs in both units: a printer quoting in GSM and a buyer costing in pounds describe the same card. For cover stock, 1 lb is about 2.708 GSM.

How a Tag Order Runs Through the Factory

Every order takes the same five stages, whether it is 50 tags or 20,000.

  1. Enquiry and costing

Send artwork, a photo of a tag you like, or just a brand name and a size. Back comes a per-piece cost split by stock, finish, string and tagging, so you can see which line to change.

    24–48 hours
  2. Dieline and proof

Shape, dimensions, punch position, stock, Pantone references, finish and cord confirmed in writing, with a digital proof to approve. Changes here cost nothing; the same one after the die is cut costs a run.

    Before printing begins
  3. Physical sample

One real tag, printed on your stock with your finish and string fitted. Hang it on a garment, check the foil against your logo. Nothing goes to bulk until you approve it.

    1 pc · 5–7 working days
  4. Production

Printing, foiling or embossing, lamination, die-cutting, punching, eyelets and stringing, with colour checked against the approved sample, not the screen file.

    7–20 working days by volume
  5. Tagging, QC and dispatch

Tags attached to the right size garment where you order both, counted, photographed and packed. QC images reach you before the balance falls due, then express dispatch.

New and DTC labels

Small quantity custom hang tags from 50 pieces let a first drop ship with real branding, without funding 5,000 tags up front.

Brands leaving blanks behind

Relabelling blanks stops at the neck. Your own tag, cord and card stock is where a streetwear line reads as a brand, not a print.

Wholesale and bulk buyers

Distributors and stockists ordering retail-ready tags in volume, with barcodes, price fields and breaks at 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000+.

Answers up front

Custom Hang Tags for Clothing FAQ

What is the minimum order for custom hang tags for clothing?

One piece for a physical sample and 50 pieces per design for production. Most printers start at 500 or 1,000, so a low MOQ run lets a new label tag a first drop and reorder in bulk once it sells. Price breaks at 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000+.

What GSM should a clothing hang tag be?

Most sit between 300 and 400 GSM, roughly 111 to 148 lb cover. Below about 250 GSM the tag flexes and tears at the punch; above 450 GSM you are into rigid board, which suits painted edges but costs more per tag.

Can you match my exact brand colour?

Yes, by Pantone reference rather than by eye. A CMYK build shifts between runs and more between stocks, so name the PMS colour for your logo and we print it as a spot colour. On uncoated kraft the same reference dries warmer, which is why the sample matters.

What is the difference between OEM and ODM hang tags?

OEM means you supply print-ready artwork and a dieline and we manufacture exactly to it. ODM means we design as well as produce: shape, type, stock, finish and cord, sent as a proof. Most first-time brands start ODM and move to OEM once their files settle.

Do you make eco-friendly recycled hang tags?

Yes. Recycled and kraft board, uncoated finishes, water-based inks, and jute or organic cotton string instead of plastic seals. Skipping lamination keeps the tag recyclable in one stream, and colour reads softer and warmer than on coated card.

Can you attach the tags to my garments?

Yes. Where garments are produced here, tags are threaded and attached before packing as part of our in-house garment branding and tagging services, each checked against the size it hangs on. For garments made elsewhere, tags ship strung and ready to attach.

What artwork do you need to start?

A vector file — AI, PDF or EPS — at 300 dpi with 3 mm bleed, fonts outlined and a separate dieline layer. Anything foiled or embossed must be vector, since both need a metal die. No file yet is fine: send a name, colour and reference tag.

Do you offer bulk pricing and repeat orders?

Yes. Repeat runs print against the approved sample and the same spec, with breaks at 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000+ pieces. Lead times run 7 to 10 working days for 50 to 500 tags and 15 to 20 above 10,000. Payment is 50% deposit, balance before dispatch.

Send the Artwork. Get One Tag Back.
