The short answer

What Is Heat Transfer Vinyl Printing?

Heat transfer vinyl printing, or HTV, uses a thin polyurethane or PVC film with heat-activated adhesive. A plotter cuts the graphic in mirror image, the waste is weeded away, and a heat press bonds the rest to the garment at a set temperature, time and pressure.

The result is bold, durable HTV graphics: solid, opaque colour with sharp edges that sits on top of the fabric. That makes custom apparel heat transfer vinyl the fastest route when every piece carries a different name, the fabric is polyester or spandex, or the finish has to shine, reflect or glow.

As a custom heat transfer vinyl clothing manufacturer, we press onto our own sportswear, streetwear and gym pieces — your pattern and artwork (OEM), or our proven blocks with your branding (ODM).

Cut, weeded, pressed and peeled in one building

Private label HTV printing also replaces the stitched neck tag: brand, size and care details pressed flat, with nothing to scratch or cut out.

Cracking and peeling edges almost always trace back to the wrong film for the fabric or an unwritten press setting. The spec below prevents both.

What we press

Six HTV Finishes, Matched to the Garment

Each vinyl has its own fabric range and press setting. We match the film to the garment and test it on your fabric before bulk.

Custom jersey name and number printing

Every player gets a different name and number, in one or two colours, for football kits and basketball uniforms. Send your roster as a spreadsheet and we press it line by line.

Six Lines That Decide Whether Your Vinyl Lasts

Ask any OEM heat press clothing manufacturer for these. Good ones answer in numbers.

  • Film type for the fabric. Standard PU for cotton, stretch film for spandex, blocker film for dyed polyester, where dye can bleed into white vinyl.
  • Press temperature, time and pressure. In °C and °F, plus hot or cold peel.
  • Placement from a fixed point. Chest graphics from the HPS, back numbers from the collar seam, sized per garment size.
  • Minimum line and letter size. Hairline detail lifts in weeding and washing.
  • Layer count. Each colour is another layer; beyond three, a graphic turns stiff.
  • Wash test and care label. The sample is washed before sign-off, with care details on the woven label or neck print.

Durable heat press vinyl for sportswear depends less on the film brand than on these six lines being written down and pressed the same way on every piece.

Choosing a method

HTV vs Screen Printing vs DTG

The right method depends on how many pieces share a graphic, the fabric, and whether you need a special finish.

HTV vs screen printing for jerseys

Most team kits use both: the identical crest through screen printing once a run passes a few hundred pieces, and the changing names and numbers in HTV. All-over designs suit sublimation.

HTV vs DTG printing

DTG printing suits full-colour artwork on cotton with a soft hand. HTV wins on polyester, spandex, bold solid colours and special finishes. For stitched texture, choose embroidery.

Heat Transfer Vinyl Printing FAQ

What is heat transfer vinyl printing used for?

Heat transfer vinyl printing is used for jersey names and numbers, logos on activewear, private label neck prints, and special finishes such as reflective, glitter, metallic, puff, flock and glow in the dark. It suits personalised pieces and polyester or spandex fabrics.

What is the minimum order for HTV printing?

Samples start at one piece and production at 20 pieces per design and colourway. Names and numbers can change on every piece, so a 20-player squad is one order.

Is HTV or screen printing better for jerseys?

For names and numbers, HTV is better because every shirt can carry a different name without a new screen. For a crest identical on hundreds of shirts, screen printing is cheaper. Most kits combine both.

What is the difference between HTV and DTG printing?

DTG sprays ink into cotton for full-colour artwork with a soft feel. HTV bonds solid film on top, works on polyester and spandex, and offers reflective, glitter and puff finishes.

How long does heat press vinyl last on sportswear?

Correctly pressed vinyl commonly lasts dozens of washes, often the life of the garment. Wash inside out, avoid bleach and fabric softener, and skip hot tumble drying.

Can HTV be used on stretch activewear?

Yes. Stretch heat transfer vinyl for activewear is thinner and more elastic than standard film, and presses at a lower temperature. On dyed polyester, a blocker film stops dye bleeding into light colours.

Do you offer OEM and ODM heat press clothing?

Yes. Under OEM we cut and sew your own pattern and press your artwork. Under ODM you choose one of our proven garment blocks and we apply your branding, including tagless neck prints and woven labels.

Do you ship HTV orders to the USA and UK?

Yes. We manufacture in Sialkot, Pakistan and ship door to door to the USA, UK, Canada, Europe and Australia by DHL, FedEx and UPS, usually in 4 to 6 business days.
