What Makes Custom MMA Shorts Different From Printed Blanks?
Custom MMA shorts are cut from your own pattern, in a shell fabric and weight you choose, with split height, closure and panel layout written into a spec sheet before anyone spreads cloth. We build them OEM — your tech pack, your block — or ODM, where you take one of our proven fight-short bases and we adapt the fit and artwork to your brand.
A wholesale supplier sells finished shorts by the carton; a print shop decorates whatever blank arrives. Neither controls the inseam, the gusset or the stretch-panel recovery — where fight shorts are won or lost. Our cut and sew production starts at the fabric roll, so what you approve is a garment, not a graphic.
The harder question is not who sews your first 20 pairs, but who sews the next 300 identically. Brands usually change supplier after the reorder — when the split creeps shorter or the stretch panel stops recovering.

Hybrid MMA fight shorts
The competition standard: microfiber polyester shell, 4-way stretch side panels, a side or front split, hook-and-loop waist flap and internal drawcord. Split height is patterned per size — one measurement graded across the range leaves 4XL short and small wide open.
Vale tudo & compression shorts
Poly-elastane knit cut tight to the leg for cage work and no-gi, with a flat waistband, gusseted crotch and flatlock seams that sit flush under a rash guard. Elastane content decides it: too little bags out mid-round. Our rash guard fit guide covers how tight to cut the top half.
Grappling & BJJ no-gi shorts
Built without pockets, zips or exposed metal, so nothing catches a finger in a scramble. Closed leg for guard work or a short side vent, with a wide elastic waist and a tunnelled drawcord that cannot be pulled out on the mat.
Board-short style MMA shorts
The longer knee-length cut favoured for training and walkouts, in a peach-skin microfiber shell with lace-up or flap closure. Same shell, longer inseam, deeper split — one artwork covers competition and training pairs.
Muay Thai & kickboxing shorts
Wide-cut satin or microfiber bodies with a high leg opening, contrast waistband and embroidered or sublimated lettering, cut for a full head-kick range. Most brands order them alongside fight shorts, so one order covers both classes.
Youth & academy team shorts
The same builds patterned down for YS–YXL, with softer elastic and a shorter split for junior classes — one artwork across youth and adult sizes, which is what a 20-piece low MOQ is for.
Six Lines That Decide Whether Your Reorder Matches
Send these to every MMA shorts manufacturer you shortlist. The ones worth working with answer in numbers; the rest answer with adjectives.
- Shell weight in both units. 140 GSM and 4.1 oz/yd² are the same cloth, and one conversion slip turns the crisp fight short you costed into a limp one. Name the construction too.
- Stretch panel blend and recovery. A panel is only as good as its elastane percentage and its recovery after washing — ask for 82/18 or 88/12 in writing, not “4-way stretch”.
- Closure, specified. Hook-and-loop flap width, drawcord type and whether the cord is tunnelled or eyeleted — the first part of a fight short to fail, and the cheapest to get right.
- Split height and inseam per size. Both measured from the crotch seam and stated for every size, so the split does not grow with the grade.
- Stress-point reinforcement. Bar tacks at the split ends and flap corners, a gusseted crotch and flatlock or taped overlock on the seat.
- Decoration and trims, named. Full-panel sublimation before assembly or print after, coverage area, plus the exact woven label, patch and swing tag in every pair.
A manufacturer quoting against this sheet rather than a photograph can cost your custom MMA shorts in 24–48 hours, and the sample you approve becomes the spec bulk is measured against.
The sheet travels with the order
Sublimation, cutting, stitching, embroidery, labelling and packing all happen in one building, so no third party reinterprets your spec. The measurements checked at inspection are the ones written at quoting, and your patterns stay yours.

Enquiry and costing
Send a tech pack, a reference pair or a sketch with measurements. Back comes a mockup and per-piece costing split by fabric, sublimation and trims, so you can see what to change.

Pattern and spec lock
Split height, inseam, closure, panel layout, GSM, elastane blend, tolerances and print placements confirmed in writing. Revisions here cost nothing; the same change after cutting costs a run.

One-piece sample
One sewn pair in your fabric and artwork. Roll in it, kick in it, wash it, measure it. Nothing moves to bulk until you sign this pair off.

Panels sublimated flat, then cut, stitched, bar-tacked and finished, with screen printing or embroidery where the artwork needs it, plus inline and endline checks.

Custom MMA Shorts FAQ
What is the minimum order for custom MMA shorts?
Samples start at one piece and bulk at a low MOQ of 20 pairs per design and colourway, across YS–YXL youth and S–4XL adult sizes. Most fight-gear factories ask for 200 to 500 pairs, so a 20-piece run lets a gym or a new label release real custom MMA shorts without funding unsold stock.
Do you work OEM or ODM?
Both. OEM means you send the tech pack and we build strictly to your pattern, measurements and trims. ODM means you start from one of our tested fight-short bases and we adapt the fit, panels and artwork to your brand — quicker and cheaper to develop. Brands without a pattern usually begin ODM and move to OEM once a fit sells.
What fabric are custom MMA shorts made from?
The shell is usually peach-skin microfiber polyester at 110–160 GSM, or 3.2–4.7 oz/yd² — light, fast-drying and clean to sublimate. Side panels run in 4-way stretch poly-elastane at 200–260 GSM, usually 82/18 or 88/12. Vale tudo and compression builds use that stretch knit throughout.
Can you sublimate our artwork across the whole panel?
Yes. Panels are printed flat before assembly, so graphics run edge to edge and across seams with no cracking or peeling, unlike a transfer pressed onto a finished pair. Sublimation works on polyester, so white grounds stay in the artwork file. Embroidery, silicone patches and screen printing are available for logos.
Will the shorts pass competition inspection?
Builds are made without zips, buckles, pockets or exposed metal, which is what most MMA and grappling rule sets require, and grappling pairs use a tunnelled drawcord. Name the promotion or federation at spec stage and we cut to its requirements — always check the current rule book, since the organiser sets it, not the factory.
Do you supply wholesale and bulk volumes?
Yes. Bulk runs are produced against the same written spec as the approved sample, with price breaks at 100, 300, 500 and 1,000+ pairs and lead times of 14 to 18 working days for 50 to 300 pairs, or 20 to 25 for 500 to 1,000+. Payment is 50% deposit, balance before dispatch.
