Key takeaways

  • A rash guard usually carries 3 tags: neck label, care label, swing tag.
  • For BJJ and MMA, a printed tagless neck label has no edge to rub.
  • US rules put the country-of-origin label at the inside centre of the neck.
  • Jafsu tags ship on rash guards from 20 pieces, after a 1-piece sample.
The short answer

What are custom rash guard tags?

Custom rash guard tags are the brand, size, care and origin labels built into a private label rash guard: a woven or printed neck label, a care label and a swing tag. On grappling rash guards, many brands print the neck label onto the fabric so nothing scratches mid-roll.

Each of the 3 tags has one job: the neck label identifies, the care label protects the stretch, the swing tag sells. We make all three with the garment under our private label clothing programme, and never reuse or resell your files.

Tag types

Which tag types work on a rash guard?

Six tag types cover almost every rash guard, and most brands use 3: a neck label, a care label and a swing tag. The real choice is at the neck, between woven, screen-printed, heat-transfer and sublimated, decided by fabric, sport and fit.

Woven neck label

The classic retail finish, sewn at centre back. On compression cuts, the edge finish decides comfort. See our custom woven labels.

Surf and lifestyle rash guards

Screen-printed tagless label

Ink printed on the inner neck by our screen printing line. No edge to rub.

BJJ and MMA · keep it compact

Heat-transfer neck label

Holds fine type and suits nylon bodies, as in our heat transfer printing.

Detailed care text · nylon blends

Sublimated inner neck print

Printed into the artwork panel by sublimation printing: no added layer, polyester-rich fabric only.

Full-sublimation designs only

Satin care label

Fibre, care and RN details in the side seam, off the neck.

Fibre %, care symbols, RN

PVC and silicone tags

A raised mark for hem or sleeve; keep it off grip zones.

Neck label choice

Tagless or woven: which neck label suits BJJ and MMA rash guards?

For grappling, a printed tagless neck label is the safer default: no stitched edge to rub through a 5-minute MMA round, and nothing for the athlete to cut out along with your brand, size and origin line. Woven labels suit looser surf styles. Fit and fabric matter as much as the label; see are rash guards supposed to be tight and do rash guards keep you warm.

Our gym and activewear fabrics run 220–300 GSM, so a neck print must stretch without cracking. We place it on your fabric at the 1-piece sample for you to wash-test.

A printed neck label is permanent. Keep details that may change, such as an RN, on the sewn care label.

Label rules by market

What must a rash guard label say to sell in the US and EU?

In the US, a rash guard label needs fibre content, country of origin, the responsible business’s name or RN, and permanent care instructions. In the EU, fibre composition is mandatory in the language of each country of sale. You approve the wording; we print it exactly.

Label requirements by market
RequirementUnited States (FTC)European Union
Must showFibre content, country of origin, company name or RNComposition of all textile fibres
Fibre listingGeneric names by % weight, largest first; 3% toleranceDecreasing % order; “100%” only for one fibre
CarePermanent, legible for the garment’s life; ASTM D5489 symbols allowedKept separate from composition text

Rule16 CFR Parts 303 and 423Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011

The FTC’s textile labelling guidance notes that RNs go only to US businesses, so the RN on your label is yours. The Care Labeling Rule guidance allows care printed directly on the garment if it stays permanent and legible. EU rules sit on the Your Europe textile label page.

A spec summary, not legal advice. The FTC notes US Customs may require a sewn-in origin label, so check with your broker before going fully tagless.

Swing tags

What goes on a rash guard swing tag?

A swing tag carries what the neck label cannot: style name, fit, fabric, size and a price or barcode sticker. Our embossed swing tags hang by string, with stock and finish confirmed on the mockup; see custom hang tags for materials.

  • Size. Matching the neck label, across YS–YXL and S–4XL.
  • Fibre call-outs. Without the full content, the FTC requires “See label for the product’s full fiber content.”
  • UPF rating. Only with a lab report; AS/NZS 4399:2020 rates fabric at UPF 15, 30, 50 or 50+.

Tagged rash guards can ship folded in branded polybags.

Spec checklist

What should you send to spec your rash guard tags?

Send 7 items and we can mock up every tag within 24–48 hours: logo, neck label layout, fibre content, care instructions, origin and RN line, size run and swing tag copy. Anything missing comes back as a question, never a guess.

  • Logo. AI, EPS or PDF, with Pantone references.
  • Neck label. Printed or woven, size and position.
  • Fibre content. For example 75% nylon / 25% spandex.
  • Care. Words or ASTM D5489 symbols.
  • Origin and RN. “Made in Pakistan” plus your name or RN.
  • Size run. Quantity per size, YS–YXL to S–4XL.
  • Swing tag. Copy, barcode and any UPF report.
Order flow

How does a private label rash guard order with tags run?

Five stages, the same at 20 pieces or 1,000: mockup and costing, a fully tagged 1-piece sample, bulk production, QC photos before the balance, then door-to-door dispatch. Price breaks apply at 100, 300, 500 and 1,000+ pieces.

When is Jafsu not the right choice for rash guard tags?

Our tags come on rash guards we cut and sew, from 20 pieces per design. That makes us the wrong fit for smaller runs, tags needed within a week, or a UPF claim without a test report.

Under 20 pieces per design

For an unvalidated design, print-on-demand carries no stock risk.

Tags needed within a week

A sample alone takes 7–10 working days; a local decorator is faster.

A UPF claim with no test report

A UPF number needs a lab result under AS/NZS 4399:2020 or your market’s method.

Also not us: single-style programmes of 10,000+ pieces, where a large mill’s unit price usually wins.

FAQ

What do buyers ask about rash guard tags?

What are custom rash guard tags?

Custom rash guard tags are the neck label, care label and swing tag built into a private label rash guard, made with the garment.

What is the minimum order for private label rash guard tags?

Tags follow the garment minimum: 20 pieces per design and colourway, after a 1-piece sample carrying your real tags.

Are tagless neck labels better than woven labels for BJJ rash guards?

For BJJ and MMA, usually yes: no stitched edge to rub and nothing to cut out.

Can care instructions be printed inside the neck?

In the US, yes, if the print stays permanent and legible for the garment’s useful life, under the FTC Care Labeling Rule.

Where does the country of origin label go on a rash guard?

At the inside centre of the neck, under FTC rules. US Customs may also require a sewn-in origin label.

Can you sublimate the neck label on a nylon rash guard?

No. Sublimation bonds to polyester, so nylon rash guards get a screen-printed or heat-transfer label.

Can a rash guard swing tag say UPF 50+?

Only with a lab report. AS/NZS 4399:2020 rates fabric at UPF 15, 30, 50 or 50+; print what your report supports.

How long does a rash guard order with custom tags take?

Mockup in 24 to 48 hours, sample in 7 to 10 working days, bulk in 14 to 18 working days for 50 to 300 pieces.

Start with one piece

Send your logo. Get one rash guard back with every tag on it.
