How to Wash a BAPE Hoodie, and What It Teaches Brands About Care
BAPE is a trademark of its owner, and Jafsu Enterprises isn’t affiliated with the brand. We manufacture original designs owned by our clients. The reason this question matters to other brands is simple: premium hoodies are judged on how they look after the tenth wash, not the first. The care routine customers follow, and the construction that lets a hoodie survive it, are both things a brand can plan for.

How to Wash a BAPE Hoodie
To wash a BAPE hoodie, or any premium heavyweight streetwear hoodie with prints, appliqué and a full zip: close the zip, turn it inside out, machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, skip bleach and fabric softener, and air-dry flat. Always check the care label first; it overrides any general guide.
What Brands Should Build In So Customers Can’t Ruin It
You can’t control how customers wash your hoodie, but you can make it forgiving. These are the construction choices that make the biggest difference.
| Risk after washing | What to build in |
|---|---|
| Shrinkage | Pre-shrunk or compacted fabric, and a shrinkage test on the sample before bulk |
| Print cracking or peeling | Correct ink for the fabric, full cure, and a wash test on a finished piece |
| Colour fading | Reactive-dyed cotton for deep colours, tested for colourfastness to washing and rubbing |
| Zip damage | A quality self-locking zip and a zip garage at the neck |
| Twisting side seams | Stable fabric and correct cutting along the grain |
| Pilling | Combed, ring-spun yarn and a tight knit |
| Loose appliqué or patches | Satin-stitched edges or a secure heat-seal plus stitching |
Getting the Care Label Right
A care label protects the customer, and it protects you when a return claims the hoodie shrank. Labelling rules differ by market, so check the requirements for each country you sell into.
- United States: the FTC Care Labeling Rule requires permanent care instructions on most textile apparel, and fibre content and country of origin must be disclosed.
- European Union: fibre composition labelling is mandatory under Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011; care symbols are widely used under the GINETEX and ISO 3758 system.
- United Kingdom: fibre composition labelling is required under the Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Names) Regulations 2012.
- Australia: clothing must carry care instructions under a mandatory care labelling standard enforced by the ACCC.
A practical care label for a premium hoodie includes fibre composition, wash temperature, “wash inside out”, no bleach, no tumble dry or tumble dry low, iron guidance and country of origin.
